Last week I listened to an audio book Songs of Songs Divine Romance by Brian Simmons. It’s a version of the book Songs of Solomon which draws on the original Hebrew translation and extended meanings and use of language to capture the essence of the intended message. In this version it speaks of the woman as being “comparable to” and “equal to” her beloved. I like this original text… This week I watched the documentary on Martin Luther King : King in the Wilderness. One of the things that I struck by was the importance of life partner choice….it […]
Magistrates Avon and Somerset Deputy Bench Chairman 2018 – Carole Johnson I am delighted to announce that I have been appointed as Deputy Bench Chairman over Avon and Somerset Magistrates. After several months preparation my position is now….official. There are several things that I would like to target whilst in post so watch this space! The Bench needs to become far more representative of the communities that we serve. It is important that we have […]
Today I was reminded of one of my personal truths…that I am a woman now maturing without the input of my own loving mother. Anyone in this position understands the gravitas of losing a good mother early,,,or at any time I guess but in particular in your youth. For me that loss was sustained 23 years ago!! So I was …young…. My mum came to this country in the 1950’s so she grew up although her mum was alive across the globe she grew up into womanhood without her being around. I can remember when she would get upset by […]
As women we can create a level of incredible change by standing up for equality. Wives are equal to husbands. Sisters are equal to brothers. Different..but ….EQUAL! When half the population is attributed to the female cohort, women’s political participation and leadership globally has only improved by 11 per cent in the last 20 years! In a season characterised with up front ouvert requests for women’s EQUAL RIGHTS and EQUAL PAY (which is absolutely morally correct!). The mood music behind this if we need to spell it out is a serious request for a lot more R E S P E C T!!!! How much […]
As a woman, we are told, that we are multi tasking beings. Actually we are multi talented, multi faceted and multi tasking beings! That’s great in many many many ways, but I was reminded of the classic excerpt in the film Bridget Jones when Darcy professes ” I love you just the way you are“”” Hooray!!!!!! What a revelation and accomplishment on Bridget’s part a sentiment many of us will aspire to….. Not how many things I can…as a woman…do… But, instead… just as I am…truly…authentically. Me! Outside of the film however we are faced not just with multi tasking on […]
