I am proudly an Authority member of Avon Fire and Rescue who through the Charity GAFSIP have had a working relationship with Gambia for decades. We not only donate equipment but also provide fire safety training. I hope to visit next year and I look forward to hearing all about the trip

Eleanor Patricia Smith MP Member of Parliament (MP) for Wolverhampton South West since the 2017 general election. The first MP from an African Caribbean background to represent a constituency in the West Midlands. Prior to being an MP, Eleanor was a theatre nurse and President of the trade union Unison in 2011. Eleanor has also served as Chair of the Midlands Regional Trades Union Congress. From nursing to politics!!! Encouraged by the union to train to become and MP. Elected in 2017 and now doing a great job for all of her constituents.

Eleanor Smith worked at Birmingham Women’s Hospital as a theatre nurse A theatre nurse from Birmingham when she was elected as the new president of the public sector trade union Unison. Eleanor Smith was the first black woman to hold the position – the highest a member of the union can hold. Mrs Smith, who was born and raised in Birmingham, trained at Nuneaton’s George Eliot Hospital and now works at Birmingham Women’s Hospital. Attended by Stephen Timms MP, Jonathan Reynolds MP, Rosie Duffield, Alex Cunningham, Marsha De Cordova MP, Eleanor Smith MP and many more who are supporting including last year’s intake. It was an honour to hear the personal journeys achieved in such a short period of time.
